Radisson RED Cape Town Makes Waves with Annual Rooftop Swim for Blanket Drive

Over 279 blankets and one powerful message: community care makes all the difference

CAPE TOWN – On Saturday, June 28, 2025, the rooftop of Radisson RED Cape Town was alive with energy, purpose and chilly splashes as swimmers of all ages jumped into the hotel’s cold rooftop pool for a cause that’s warming hearts across the city. Now in its fourth year, the Blanket Drive Swim in partnership with local non-profit 9Miles Project continues to grow in both numbers and impact.
With over 279 blankets collected, the 2025 edition of this community-powered initiative reached new heights.

“This event started as a small ripple, and now it’s a tidal wave of kindness,” said Dayle Theunissen, Marketing Lead at Radisson RED Cape Town. “We’ve seen how a single act, like jumping into a freezing pool can spark a chain reaction of empathy. The swim isn’t just symbolic anymore, it’s a catalyst for real change and we’re proud to be part of it”
Community involvement continues to be at the heart of the initiative, with support from local swimming clubs, hotel guests, staff and members of the public.
“Our partnership with Radisson has grown into much more than seasonal support – it’s become a key part of how we live out what it means to be active citizens. Through shared experiences and meaningful connection, we’re showing our young people that building community starts with showing up. We’re not just handing out blankets – we’re creating agents of change.” – Nigel Savel, Founder of 9Miles Project.

Every lap swam and every blanket donated sends a message to these young people: you matter and this community sees you. The smiles, the thank-you notes, the courage in the cold, it’s beautiful to witness.
Radisson RED and 9Miles Project invite more partners, individuals, and communities to get involved, take the plunge, and help turn a cold season into a powerful expression of shared humanity.
